Alkanes

Image
Alkanes Alkanes are saturated organic compounds with G.M.F. (General Molecular Formulae) CnH2n+2, where; n is the number is the number of carbon atom and is greater or equal to 1 C is the carbon atom or symbol H is the hydrogen atom or symbol All compounds in this serie have the same chemical properties because they all exhibit the same molecular formulae. Methane is the first member in this serie and other members includes; Ethane, Propane, Butane, Pentane, Hexane, Heptane, Octane, Nonane, decane... I recommend the format below for ease of remembrance. M- for Methane E- for Ethane P- for Propane B- for Butane the second P- stands for Pentane H- for Hexane the second H- stands for Heptane O- for Octane N- for Nonane D- for Decane So, at the end we should have MEPBPHHOND respectively. Note that; the first four members of the alkanes are gases while other memebers are liquids. Now, let us discuss briefly about some of the members in the alkane serie. 1. METHANE- CH4

Naming Organic Compounds

How to name organic compounds Naming organic compounds is one of the major difficulty to chemistry students, while to others it is the simplest sub-topic in organic chemistry. This article was drafted basically to simplify the difficulties in naming organic compounds, it also come along with series of examples to make you understand better. Technically, at first you may find this difficult but after reading this carefully to the end while you visualize it, you should be able to name all sort of organic compounds correctly even without a guide. Also, you should follow us by Email so as to get latest update because here on Educative Trends, we update all post content on a regular basis to offer the best of resourceful informations to our loyal visitors. You can't wait to start learning something new, right? no hassles, let's start the teaching while you learn. Here is an overview of what we will

Organic Chemistry

Organic chemistry- chemistry Introduction to Organic Chemistry Organic Chemistry is a branch of chemistry which deals basically with the scientific study of organic compounds (i.e. compounds of carbon, hydrogen, and few other elements such as chlorine, fluorine, Iodine, nitrogen, sulphur, phosphorus etc.), their structures, properties and chemical reactions. • Study of structure is used to determine their chemical composition and formulae. Structure according to the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary “is a thing that is made of several parts connected together, arranged, or organized”. Hence, studying the structure of organic compounds is the determining of its chemical composition. • Study of properties- physical and chemical properties Physical properties is based on the structural formulae, while the chemical properties is based on the molecular formulae. It should be noted that; Orga
